Indie pop singer/songwriter Shalini Chatterjee began her musical career during the late '80s playing bass in the Madison, WI-based Kissyfish. After relocating to San Francisco and learning guitar, in 1993 she formed Vinyl Devotion, releasing a series of acclaimed records through Parasol. A move to North Carolina precipitated the formation of a new Vinyl Devotion lineup, which released 1998's Floor Model; however, the group dissolved later that same year and Chatterjee formed a new band with legendary guitarist/producer Mitch Easter and his former Let's Active collaborators Jon Heames on bass and Eric Marshall on drums. Credited to simply Shalini, the album We Want Jelly Donuts followed in the summer of 2000. In 2003, Shalini and the band returned to the studio embracing a harder rock sound for their follow-up, Metal Corner .
