At the height of the grunge movement (1991-1994), no other band was name-checked as often as an influence/trailblazer as The Melvins were. Having issued several underground classics before the Seattle sound hit the mainstream, the veteran band was rewarded with a major-label contract shortly afterward (Atlantic Records), resulting in such titles as 1993's Houdini (which longtime admirer Kurt Cobain produced parts of), 1994's Stoner Witch, and 1996's Stag.
