Weezer - El Scorcho [Single]
Heading in a slightly heavier direction than their debut, the first single from Weezer's Pinkerton has a nice loose feel that leads into a driving rock finale. The track "El Scorcho" is filled with the typical smart-guy humor and a dose of loud guitars and drums that put the band in a new but equally memorable light. It's loud, it's fun, it's definitely still Weezer, and the additional tracks on the single make things even more worthwhile. "You Gave Your Love to Me Softly" is a fast-paced rocker from the Angus soundtrack that comes and goes pretty quickly, but never lets up on energy in its short duration. "Devotion" is a slower, fuzzier rock number that overflows with melodic sensibilities and heartfelt sentiments. Pinkerton is, of course, a must-have for any of the group's fans, but the extra tracks on this single hit the spot as well, and they deserve to be searched out by anyone who considers themselves a follower of the group's always-phenomenal musical efforts. ~ Peter J.
