The CJAY 92 Kid's Fund

The CJAY 92 Kid's Fund was created in 2000 with a mandate to assist less fortunate families and their children in and around the Calgary area.

We've attempted to keep the CJAY 92 Kid's Fund at a grass roots level. It's been used to help build a wheel chair accessible park in Silver Springs, to replace stolen bicycles as well as for our Gerry Forbes Secret Wish which you can hear every Friday at 7:40am. The Secret Wish program began as a Christmas initiative. The holiday season is a difficult time for many families who cannot afford a lavish dinner or presents for their children. CJAY 92 decided to help out by providing toys for the kids, specifically needed items such as winter coats and cash. The challenge is hardship doesn't just occur at Christmas; it's year round. So now we do a Secret Wish every Friday. Listeners nominate families for a Secret Wish who are going through tough times. The families we assist always have children and often are facing bleak circumstances due to illness or disabilities.

Since its inception, you and the CJAY 92 Kids Fund have raised over 1 million dollars. 98% of money raised goes directly back into Calgary and the surrounding area. CJAY 92 raises money through donations from generous Calgarians and corporate events like golf tournaments and from fundraisers such as the Champions of Hope Sno-Pitch Tournament, CJAY 92's Charity Rock Auction and Charity Rock Ride.

How may I donate to the CJAY 92 Kids Fund?
Cash, cheque or money orders may be dropped off at the CJAY 92 studios located at 1110 Centre Street North, 3rd Floor, Calgary, AB between 8:30am and 5:00pm.  Master Card, Visa or American Express transactions may be completed at our front desk or via the phone by calling 240-5859. We are unable to accept debit card transactions at this time.

What may I donate to the CJAY 92 Kids Fund?
We receive many offers of furniture, beds and toys. We unfortunately do not have the manpower or real estate to manage this type of donation properly. Cash, cheque or Credit Card is preferred.

Will I get a Tax Receipt?
The CJAY 92 Kids Fund is a non-registered charity and as such we are unable to issue tax receipts at this time. We can issue a receipt for your donation but is not suitable for tax purposes.

How much do I have to donate to get an on air mention?
We hope individuals and companies donate with their heart in the right place.  The machine that is Calgary's Best Rock, CJAY 92 works on a different level than The CJAY 92 Kids Fund. You have to appreciate the fact that we are inundated with many requests for on air components and simply can't accommodate all. We hope you are not donating with the thought that there will be a huge on air presence for you or your company. We do manage to thank as many donors as we can and if you feel your donation warrants this, please contact CJAY 92 at 240-5859. We have had companies donate $25,000 dollars with no on air mention and we've brought in a young girl who donated her Lemon Aid stand profits. As you can see, it runs the full gamete.

How do I know my donation is being used wisely?
Many of us at CJAY 92 are in front of the radio catching the Gerry Forbes Secret Wish at 7:40am every Friday. It has always been our intention to keep the CJAY 92 Kids Fund simple and grass roots. We never wanted it weighed down with red tape or politics. We have less than 2% overhead as most of the venues and products are donated. CJAY 92 employees volunteer their time and as a result we are able to issue cheques, complete Secret Wishes and basically do what needs to be done in a timely manner. We also do a number of initiatives off air and can assure you that any and all donations are used professionally, timely and in accordance with good taste and with a character associated with a quality charity.

When will my donation be used?
Donations are deposited into The CJAY 92 Kids Fund account. From that one account we manage the Secret Wish and all other initiatives. Your donation will be added to the total balance and used as needed. 

How do I nominate a family for the Gerry Forbes Secret Wish?
The Gerry Forbes Secret Wish is not a contest but rather Calgarians helping Calgarians. If you know of a family that could use a hand up please email the story to wish@cjay92.com. Please ensure to include your name and contact information as we try to keep it "Secret" from the nominated family. In order to do that we need to know who you are.
