IT'S SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!!
Are you ready for Super Bowl Sunday number XLVII and all the hype that goes with it? Heck, I know I have to be because it’s also my wife Shelley Bo Belli’s birthday, so believe me I know where my priorities should stand.
Many years I have lined up the Super Shelley Birthday Bowl, inviting a hundred friends to the big event but this year she has decided to do a toned down version with just Shelley myself and Bentley the Wonder dog which makes it easy for me.
I do love the Super Bowl though; just the sheer numbers and event are unbelievable, you don’t realize that the Canada – United States NORAD system of jets also has to practice for the big event.
The excitement starts early in the week at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado where jets scramble to practice just like the players have to do perfecting the strike in case of attack.
Many don’t realize that they are responsible for protecting the thousands at the game and those tailgating at The Mercedes-Benz Superdome; The Falcon Virgo 13 Superbpwl defense exercise was held Tuesday in preparation for today’s event.
You will see a fly by, but not by these guys who are on stand-by in case of any trouble coming from any border.
They have flown to more than 5000 possible air threats since 9-11 and have flown 62,500 sorties with airborne support from across the nation.
Today should be quite the show with 16 time Grammy winner Beyonce doing the Pepsi Super Bowl halftime show on CBS.
Aside from the game itself this show is the most – watched musical event of the year, heck just ask Janet Jackson she hasn’t lived that broken breast plate down for her entire life.
Past entertainers have included Madonna, Tom Petty, Prince the Rolling Stones and even Mr. America Bruce Springsteen himself.
The other big story about this year’s party is it continues right into Mardi - Gras that follows the football celebration right into the annual parade and booze fest.
If you have never been to the Carnival it’s hard to describe, public celebration and parades combining the tossing of beads for those flashing their assets to those on the balcony’s above whilst drinking and cheering on the participants.
Its been described as the best party in the world for some, other describe it as being like a third world country meltdown, so decide for yourself.
Calgary Stampeder coach Devon Claybrooks is down there and reporting back for us and he says he is having a blast, although its tough to get a ticket to anything unless you are a previous Super Bowl winner, and just so you know he is.
Before coming to the Calgary Stampeders, first as a player and now as a coach Devon played on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under John Gruden back in 2002 and won the Super Bowl. The guys have all gathered and are having a reunion this week down in the French Quarter, what could possibly go wrong?
I hope everyone has a great Party today, there is one at every bar and restaurant and wherever Shelley wants to celebrate the very private Super Shelley Birthday Bowl.
