What Makes You A Proud Canadian?

Posted By: Gerry Forbes http://www.cjay92.com · 9/30/2012 6:22:00 AM

I came across a recent online poll asking Canadians to weigh in on what important historical moments meant the most them, when asked they had some interesting comments.

Coming in at number five was the Canada win over Russia in the back in 1972, and every other year we were able to beat them, but 1972 was the pinnacle.

We are probably holding onto that big win since it has all been downhill and really haven’t been able to back that up since the Olympics.

I was surprised to see how many people knew about Vimy Ridge, It must be the stamp commercials we are paying attention too.

Of course Vimy Ridge was a huge conquest for the Canadian Armed Forces, we lost a lot of men to a much bigger Army but won that battle, kind of makes you wonder why we pay so much for an Audi these days.

At number three is the battle the government is doing those public service commercials now directing you to a website, this is where we kicked America’s butt, now would not be a good time to ask for a rematch.

In at number two was the completion of The Canadian Pacific Railroad and the unions and CP started fighting the next day, it is amazing that we don’t have coast-to-coast rail service for passengers because they say the price wouldn’t be viable.

And of course the biggest memory that we are proud of is Confederation, the parchment that holds the glue to make us Canada, a document so important it lets Quebec swear in a new government without raising the Canadian flag, still a sore spot with me.

I still say the first squadron of the Snowbirds known originally, as The Golden Centennaires was a proud moment and still is every time I see them fly.  Then there was the building of the CN Tower and Expo 67 in Montreal. The recent Winter Olympics was a great Canadian moment in time and there are personal favorites like The Formation of The Canadian Football League, The Leafs Cup win in 1967 and the birth of Don Cherry.

I would love to hear yours, comment below if you've got one.

Lets see what our kids are up to today, you remember our high school games of beer pong and caps, pretty harmeless fun.

Now the kids have taken it to a whole new level, there is a new drinking game at colleges and universities that has quite a groundswell.

This new game is called The Wizard Stick, this is where you drink cans of beer then tape them together end to end as you empty them.

The object of the game is to get the stick taller than you are, if you do you have reached wizard level.

The if you keep taping the cans together till you hit the ceiling you have reached paramedic level because they'll be calling one soon.
