Children with cystic fibrosis struggle to have a normal childhood, facing challenges such as failure to thrive, spending two or more hours per day undergoing physical therapy and taking 20 or more pills per day to digest food.

* In Canada, there are approximately 3,600 children and young adults with CF. 1 in 25 Canadians carries the defective gene responsible for CF.

In the twentieth century, humanity
underwent a remarkable transition from
agricultural dominance to big city dwellers
and, in a city, it is easy to think we differ
from the rest of life because of our
intelligence. We create our habitat in cities
and so long as there are parks for us to
camp and play in, we assume, who needs
nature? In a city, our highest priority
becomes our jobs and so the economy
assumes primacy. Dr. Suzuki will argue that
we, like all other species, live within the
limits and conditions dictated by laws of
physics, chemistry and biology. We can’t
change those realities and have to live
within them. Other things like capitalism,
economies, corporations, currency and
markets are human constructs and can be changed, modified or discarded. We cannot
shoehorn nature into our agendas as we currently attempt to do when our decisions have
to satisfy political and economic priorities. We cannot have healthy people or societies
without a healthy world of rich biodiversity and clean air, water, soil and energy.

Our multi-sport camps aim to involve as many different sports as possible, such as Rugby, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Yoga, In-line skating, Sledge Hockey, Skating, and swimming. We are fortunate to have a facility with a full gymnastic centre, three indoor ice rinks, a martial arts centre, a gymnasium, as well as a full length indoor soccer turf. As a result, the activities, we as camp leaders can instruct are limitless... so long as our equipment provides us the opportunity to be successful. Our camps are built on the foundation of practicing and exposing children ages 6-12 to all the fundamental movement skills in the environments of air, water, dry-land, and ice. The exposure our campers get from the variety of activities we provide them, assists them in specializing in sports they might not have otherwise had exposure to. Cochrane has a large population of children who participate in only hockey and soccer, but through the promotion of our sport alliance, we are encouraging kids to try other activities, like baseball, basketball, rugby, pickle ball, etc.

Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre and Cochrane are proud to host "Fit Kid's multi sport day camps" Starting July 2nd straight through to August 31st. Get your kids active this summer and grant them exposure to a wide variety of great activies like gymnastics, martial arts, in-line skating and swimming, among other exciting games and activities. Camps are for children aged 6 to 12 and instructed by high qualified leaders.
