Martha Bass paid homage to the great
Mahalia Jackson with poignant, exuberantly performed versions of her best songs. Although she is not as gifted as
Jackson (who is?) and doesn't exactly come from her more formalized gospel tradition,
Bass nonetheless offered creditable tributes to gospel's all-time queen, while also demonstrating her own considerable powers.
