This is the second of two albums that document a
Charles Tyler club gig in Stockholm. Splitting his time between alto and baritone,
Tyler (in a quartet with trumpeter Earl Cross, bassist Kevin Ross and drummer
Steve Reid) has a real chance to stretch out on these five freebop originals. The compositions are strong but it is the spirited and fairly free improvisations that make both of these volumes an excellent purchase for listeners with ears open toward the jazz avant-garde.
