Recorded when Garry Dial was the pianist with the Red Rodney-Ira Sullivan Quintet, but not released until this 1991 CD, this trio set gives one a strong sampling of the adventurous player. Assisted by bassist Jay Anderson and drummer Joey Baron, Dial performs 12 of his originals plus Anderson's "Around the Block with Willy." The music swings, but is fairly unpredictable and has its surprising moments. A fine early effort, recorded a few years before the formation of Dial & Oatts.
